Susie Ellis to be Honored as Trailblazer for Gender Equality by the Metropolitan New York Chapter, US National Committee for UN Women

“Champions of Change: Stand Up for Women Worldwide” Event to Include Keynote by Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women

Miami, FL and New York, NY – October 3, 2017 – Susie Ellis, Chairman & CEO of the Global Wellness Summit and Global Wellness Institute, will be honored this month by the Metropolitan New York Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women as a trailblazer for gender equality in wellness. The “Champions of Change: Stand Up for Women Worldwide” event, which takes place October 18th at The Harmonie Club in New York, will be keynoted by Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women.

The New York Chapter is celebrating its 30th anniversary during a pivotal moment in the history of the United Nations and UN Women. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, commits nations to 17 goals to ensure lives of dignity for all, including Goal 5 for Gender Equality. Meanwhile, gains that have been made for greater rights and opportunities for women worldwide are being threatened or lost in many regions due to government and economic instability, conflict, populist movements, natural disaster and climate change – putting the autonomy and human rights of the most vulnerable, particularly women and girls – at great risk.

Other honorees at the 30th anniversary event will include leaders in finance and diplomacy: Jolly Amatya, Youth Advocate, Co-Chair/Youth Chair of the 2015–17 Youth Assembly at the United Nations; and Erika Karp, Founder and CEO of Cornerstone Capital Inc., Founding Board member of the Sustainable Accounting Standards board, Member of World Economic Forum, Global Agenda Council on Financing and Capital, and former advisor to Clinton Global Initiative.

“We have been invigorated in the last year by the revitalized focus in the United States on women’s rights and gender equality and are thrilled to honor three incredible trailblazers- strong, visionary women who have made a difference in their respective fields, and as mentors to young women,” said New York Chapter President Mary Luke.
