Golfing in St. Andrews

There are plenty of options for golfing in St. Andrews with 10 courses nearby. Only the Old Course requires a handicap. Please note that due to its overwhelming popularity, the Old Course still upholds the tradition of a ballot (lottery) drawn two days ahead of play (except for Sundays and tournament days). This enables visiting golfers to have the opportunity to play the Old Course during their visit.

How To Book

Tee times at golf courses in St. Andrews can be booked directly at the contact information provided below or through the Old Course Hotel’s Golf Services department by emailing [email protected]. All registered Summit delegates, including those not staying at the Old Course Hotel, are invited to reach out to this Golf Services department regarding any golf enquiries.

Because the Old Course ballot is quite complicated, it is recommended that the hotel’s Golf Services department submits the entries for all delegates, especially if you are planning to enjoy your tee time with colleagues and friends (see detailed information further below with the course listing).

Please note that there will be a slightly reduced rate for play during the winter, and we will post the new rates for all courses as soon as they are announced.

OLD COURSE

The historic Old Course is widely recognized as the oldest and most iconic golf course in the world, established in 1400. From the moment you arrive on the first tee you feel as if you have rewound the clock back to the time when this great game was created. The Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker are recognized across the globe, yet the greatest feature of the Old Course is that despite its grand status, it remains a public golf course, open to all.Host to Open Championships on 30 occasions, most recently the 150th Open in 2022, the Old Course is the ultimate bucket list golf course in the world.

Play on the Old Course is decided by a daily ballot, which is drawn two days ahead of play. The Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa provides an Old Course Ballot entry service for hotel guests & delegates (provided all players meet the handicap criteria). Please note that the ballot system is a lottery and offers no guarantees of gaining a tee time, as demand to play this course is very high. Entries are accepted from now for any date this year. The entries don’t get officially submitted until two days before play, however all golfer’s details are logged in their books. The cut off is 2pm two days prior to the day of play. However, it is recommended to submit details to the team once you know the preferred date of play. Please note to not submit several applications for the same time slot since duplicate entries will be disqualified. You will receive an email with the results at approximately 5pm two days prior to the day you have entered for. If you wish to enter the Old Course Ballot, email: [email protected] and please provide the date(s) you would like to be entered and the following information for each player in your group: full names (minimum of two golfers), official handicap and home golf clubs.

An official Handicap certificate is required for play on the Old Course (Gents max 36, Ladies max 36).

Please note this course will not be open for play on 3rd and 4th November 2024.
