Trend: The Festivalization of Wellness
Wellness raves and gatherings, where music, dance and creative expression lead to some wild, collective and emotional release, just keep raging on usher in a new era
Our 2026 trend, “The Festivalization of Wellness,” details how a new wave of communal wellness events inspired by festival and rage culture––but without all the excess and sleepless nights––is reshaping the global wellness landscape. Healthy, cathartic wellness raves and festivals––whether sober morning dance events, sauna raves, or multi-day immersions at wellness resorts––just keep spawning because they’re reframing wellness as built on joy, belonging and expression rather than discipline and endless optimization.
In an increasingly polarized wellness space, the wellness raver is a radically different breed than all the maxxers and measurers. They hunger for experiences that embrace what humans actually are: imperfect, emotional, relational, and sensory. The new wellness raves and fests are a powerful response to widespread economic stress, by offering inclusive experiences with a low barrier to entry. They answer extreme social fragmentation and digital overload with some euphoric dancing with strangers. And they squarely meet the rising desires to party and connect without getting wasted.
The report dives into the diverse ways that wellness is getting a rave-up:
- How all around the world, sober daytime coffee raves, sauna and grief raves, and somatic dance experiences like SANCTUM, are going viral. See the Financial Times article below for how daytime coffee raves––mixing fitness, dancing and DJs––are bursting onto the scene from Paris to Dubai, with wellness raves like Coffee Culture and The Coffee Party attracting thousands of people.
- How mass-participation fitness festivals such as Hyrox are attracting hundreds of thousands of athletes and spectators to sweat, celebrate and heal together.
- How wellness resorts from Six Senses and Soneva to SHA Wellness are now hosting immersive multi-day wellness festivals. For instance, Euphoria Retreat in Greece held its second wellbeing fest this summer, rooted in macrozoe, the Greek philosophy of living fully and with purpose. Experiences spanned expressive somatic movement, sound healing and SANCTUM sessions.
- How at the mega music festivals like Wilderness, Lost Village and Envision the “wellness” is becoming as important as the lineups, embedding breathwork, rituals and recovery zones.
There’s no way to paint just how much has happened since the trend was published early this year. Gyms across China are going viral (drawing millions of online views) for turning workouts into wellness parties with DJs and light displays. More dance clubs, like London’s Ministry of Sound, are turning their dance spaces into fitness arenas, mixing fitness racing with the sound, culture and community of nightlife. SANCTUM is on the march, with its first (but certainly not its last) move into the US. This June, it had a residency at the buzzy social bathhouse Othership in NYC. In China, schools are even turning the mandatory morning exercise into a dance party set to high-energy techno music.
A trend developing: ancient wellness and spiritual traditions getting rave-ified. In China, younger gens are remixing 800-year-old morning qigong routines with electronic ambient beats and a dance party vibe. In Taiwan, ancient temples are becoming surprising rave venues, such as Temple Meltdown, with sound systems overseen by gods. A recent wellness retreat in the Turkish countryside had hundreds of people seeking ecstasy through sema, the ancient spiritual practice of whirling (like a dervish).
Wellness raves are a grassroots movement and one hot ticket. And they’re a shining example of a wider trend unfolding in wellness: meaning over measurement, catharsis over clinical data, and self-expression over self-surveillance.
