Deborah Szekely
Co-Founder, Rancho La Puerta
Deborah Szekely co-founded Rancho La Puerta in 1940 with her husband Edmond Szekely, and founded the Golden Door in 1959. She is a wellness activist, philanthropist and writer who served as president of the Inter-American Foundation, a federal agency, from 1984-1990. She also founded Eureka Communities, New Americans Museum and WellnessWarrior.org. In 2012, she was awarded “Order of the Aztec Eagle” — Mexico’s highest honor bestowed upon non-Mexicans— and is widely known as the “Godmother of Wellness.”
