Insights & Press Conference

Susie & Nancy’s Qatar Site Visit

This week, GWS Chair and CEO, Susie Ellis, and GWS Executive Director and Chief Creative Officer, Nancy Davis, traveled to Qatar for a press conference about the 2023 Global Wellness Summit (GWS). Nancy passed along some photos and initial insights to share with our Summit family.

The press conference was held outdoors in front of the headquarters of GWS Host Sponsor Msheireb Properties, where they were met with a high level of enthusiasm and interest from regional businesses and media. Msheireb Properties is Qatar’s sustainability and wellness powerhouse and the developer of Zulal Wellness Resort, the Middle East’s first full-immersion wellbeing resort.

Nancy reports, “I am impressed with the design and architecture of Doha. We look forward to having our delegates experience the complete ‘smart city’ that is Msheireb Downtown. The invisible and the visible. Extraordinary design on the outside and underlying engineering on the inside. A remarkable commitment to sustainability and regenerative development.”

Qatar, one of the smallest but mightiest Middle Eastern countries, where cultural authenticity meets hyper-modernity—and the sea meets the desert—is a powerful location for the 2023 GWS. With its Qatar National Vision 2030, the country is at a pivotal time in its history, with an extraordinary mission and investment plan to become a global leader in sustainability, health and wellness, tourism, sports and culture. With its recent, successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup, $220 billion was spent radically reimagining its infrastructure, with 150 new hotels and resorts, and new smart, sustainable cities, museums, public beaches and green space, subway systems and sports complexes.

Sharing photos from the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), Nancy captured just a glimpse of the extraordinary design elements and building structures in Doha, Qatar.

The view at night of Msheireb Downtown, in the main square as seen from the terrace of “Mosaic” restaurant in Mandarin Oriental, is particularly compelling.

Susie and Nancy leave shortly for Zulal Wellness Resort, sure to be an option for delegates as the pre- and post-Summit trip options are finalized. Stay tuned for more information to come about the pivotal 2023 Summit in Qatar!
